Adventures with Objects The exhibition features more than 200 objects, including furniture, architectural models, fabrics, saddles, plates and glasses, books, photographs and documents, which make up the core of the private collection of Alexander von Vegesack, the avant-garde founder and director of the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein.
|
From the 60s on, Alexander von Vegesack collected objects and documents from all over the world, from Spain to Mexico, from Austria to Japan. Organised by Mathias Schwartz-Clauss, the exhibition offers a portrait of the collector, his passion, his far-reaching curiosity and his ability to read beyond the immediate aesthetics of an object. The exhibition tells the collection’s story through the life, work and travels of von Vegesack. There will be twenty sections which will include the history of the best known 20th-century pieces and various surprising discoveries.
